The Lincolnshire Show 2012 'Trading in New Markets'

by Helen Tomkinson 3. April 2012 10:14

Taking place at the very heart of our county, the 2 day long Lincolnshire Show has a well-earned reputation for showcasing all that is great about Lincolnshire – and the 2012 show will be no different. We will be celebrating the inventiveness, initiative and hard work of companies based within the county that are already trading successfully both domestically and internationally. Alongside this we will be celebrating those local firms that process raw materials from overseas.

The ‘Trading in New Markets’ marquee is an innovative joint initiative from the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, UK Trade & Investment, Lincolnshire County Council and the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce. This area will provide the ideal location at the show to demonstrate Lincolnshire’s engineering and production excellence and find out more about international trade. We invite you to visit the marquee or take up the excellent exhibition opportunities that it offers to all those involved in overseas trade, whether starting out or looking to expand on existing export business.

If you would like to find out how to get involved and exhibit in the ‘Trading in New Markets’ marquee, please contact Jayne Southall on 01522 585507 or email jsouthall@lincs-events.co.uk

Two new funding competitions in the area of farming and food

by Helen Tomkinson 27. February 2012 15:43

The Technology Strategy Board and Defra are working together to support and promote innovation across the food and agriculture sectors, for both large and small companies. As part of this support, two competitions will be formally launched at the Farming, Food and Drink Innovate for Growth Summit on 14 March.

To promote both these competitions further, the Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is organising a series of regional workshops in March and April 2012 around the UK.

The competitions:

1.   The Technology Strategy Board, in partnership with Defra and BBSRC, is planning to launch a £multi-million competition as part of the Sustainable AgriFood Innovation Platform (SAF-IP), to fund collaborative R&D projects in the area of Food Processing and Manufacturing Efficiency. Applications open in June 2012

2.   Defra and the Technology Strategy Board are also launching the Innovate for Growth competition, providing up to twenty £25k grants for innovative SMEs across the farming, food and drink industries. This funding will support the rapid development of an innovative idea and demonstrate its practical feasibility. The competition will open in April, with results announced in the summer. Full details will be given at the events.

These workshops will help delegates to get a better understanding of the scope of these competitions, as well as the competition process, rules and how to apply. Biosciences KTN representatives will be on hand to help with any queries related to the competition and to explain how the Biosciences KTN can help applicants with the process. Delegates will also be able to give a short presentation outlining their areas of expertise and interest to potential partners.

For venue-specific programmes and to register for one of these workshops please visit our event site: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/org/1382982583 or click on the event date of interest above.

Lincolnshire Tree Services

by Helen Tomkinson 1. February 2012 10:23

LTS Logo(Small).jpg

Land owners, home owners and property developers with sites ripe for development need expert guidance through the red tape of BS5837: 2005 Trees in Relation to Construction, which ensures that trees are appropriately and successfully retained when development takes place.

Lincolnshire Tree Services provides free estimates for Site Clearance as well as detailed Tree Reports, which are essential for identifying factors such as Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Areas which can seriously disrupt potential development.

Cherry_picker.jpg

Professional tree reports cover management plans for retaining the amenity value of trees on your site, specifying root protection areas and new planting for biodiversity to replace or enhance existing wildlife habitat, in line with current legislation.

You can also sign up on our blog for free email updates to keep you abreast of all new tree legislation that may affect your current or future development plans.

And for any Chamber members, we're offering a 10% discount on any commissioned tree reports, consultancy or tree work for you and any new client you introduce.

Why not give us a call on 01522 717530 for a FREE ESTIMATE? Then you'll be ready to go as soon as your development project has the green light.

The launch event was designed to help businesses in the agriculture and horticulture sector access a range of business tools and information to help their business grow.

Guest speakers at the event were Phil Cookson from Roythornes Solicitors, who informed delegates of the latest developments in health and safety legislation and employment law and explained how they related to the agriculture and horticulture sector. David Gratton from Duncan & Toplis presented on insights gained from his considerable experience in advising the agriculture sector and underlined the importance of planning to business finances and taxation.

Chris Moses, from Personnel Advice & Solutions Ltd, spoke about the increasing degree of unease amongst Farmers and Horticulturalists regarding the introduction of new legislation in 2011, and key legal changes affecting employers in agriculture and horticulture during 2011.

One such activity has seen Lincolnshire Police promoting the use of Smartwater DNA marking on agricultural machinery, all of which was detailed in the presentation.

Diane Simpson from the e-Business Club was the final speaker, telling delegates about new funding available that allows eligible businesses to attend ICT training workshops and events free of charge. The e-Business Club is a virtual support network created to help businesses make the best use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to boost business performance. These workshops and events help take the confusion out of ICT and help businesses to maximise the benefits of ICT to increase productivity.

The event also included a networking lunch, which gave delegates the opportunity to visit the exhibition stands.
